Friends,

I hope this newsletter finds you well.

This week, I'm sharing the first two clips from the podcast episode with Vagabjørn aka Jørn Bjørn Augestad. In 2019, at 29 years old, he became the youngest Norwegian to have visited every country in the world! He is a couch surfer, author of 2 books, speaker and off-the-beaten-path tour guide.

While on the topic of the podcast, I just booked Helge Ove Søndenaa Svendsen as the next guest. He has written the book "The Little, Big Tinder Cookbook - 21 Attempts at Love and Pancakes." The book is the result of a social experiment on Tinder that Helge started 10 years ago.

He has been concerned with love and dating for a long time, and what dating apps have done to us and society. In the book, Helge writes painfully and honestly about love, and offers the reader hope and motivation that makes you want to continue swiping and dating. On top of that, the reader gets some delicious pancake recipes, straight from Tinder!

Helge is a seasoned copywriter with a notable career at JCP PRAD in Oslo. He's known for his ability to blend traditional and digital advertising with interactive storytelling. Stay tuned for the first clips from our conversation in an upcoming newsletter.

I would also like to invite you to consider the difference between power and peace, and to understand yourself more deeply in order to better manage your relationships.

Let's get into it 🤿

The most surprising thing Vagabjørn learned about himself and the world while traveling

🤩🍿I sat down for a conversation with the world traveler Vagabjorn aka Jørn Bjørn Augestad. The 1st clip from this episode on the Accelerated Learning podcast is available now, check it out!

🎞️ In this clip (10:22 min), Joachim and Vagabjørn discuss the best/most surprising thing that he has learned about himself and the world, through travelling. He talks about the importance of being able to rely on each other, and the journey in the back of a truck with 12 other people through Africa. During which he got sick with Malaria 3 times, was innocently in jail for 5 days in Burkina Faso, and a violent robbery where he got stabbed in the hand, in Cameroon.

🎞️ In this clip (8:48 min), Joachim and Vagabjørn discuss how friendly and hospitable almost everyone you meet when traveling really are. Vagabjørn illustrates this with a story from Sudan. The discussions turn to his first book, the vital importance of trust between people, and how this can radically reshape our view of the world, and ourselves. Vagabjørn shares a story from Syria that exemplifies how mutual trust can be the key to wonderful and touching life experiences.

Food-for-Thought

🧘 Power vs. Peace

Power relates to the ability to impact the world outside oneself, be it through political, economic, or personal influence. This can manifest in leaders or activists who shape policies or environments. However, the pursuit of external control often comes with challenges like resistance or unpredictability, potentially leading to stress or a sense of powerlessness when outcomes don't match intentions.

On the other hand, peace is about mastering one's internal state: managing emotions, maintaining mental clarity, and achieving self-acceptance. One might say that inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions. It's about cultivating resilience and contentment within, which may not change external conditions, but rather transforms how one experiences them.
