Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. In between barbecuing, surfing and comparing tan lines with friends, keep in mind that tranquility and peace of mind can also be found in gardening and fixing small things around the house, such as an old broken fence or repairing the brakes on your daughter's bicycle. Small, seemingly insignificant, activities can hold & release a sense of calm and lot of good feelings. This week I would like to tell you about how understanding our cognitive social channel capacity can help you build stronger relations and organizations, a powerful technique to regulate emotions and mood, and how to reclaim 40 hours pr week. Let's get into it 🤿

How Understanding Dunbar’s Number Can Help You Build Stronger Relations and Organizations
Imagine this: You're working a in company in which everyone knows everyone. You know the partner's for most of of you co-workers and their family situation and hobbies. In case you need to ask for advice, you know everyone's field of expertise, so getting help, when you feel stuck, is quick and easy. Then, your company merges with another one. Departments and teams are re-shuffled. You suddenly have 240+ co-workers. A lot of them are experts in new areas, and you think that this will allow even more work to be done, faster.
You start to get to know some of the new workers, but somehow you feel more confused. Remembering key details about people is more challenging than ever, and and getting work done has become slower. Why Does This Happen? Watch this short video to learn more about our cognitive social channel capacity and it's impact on company culture, structuring of networks of people, our interaction in the communities we are a part of and how to leverage it's impact in order to build stronger relations and organizations. 🎥 This video is part of a series/playlist on mental models that forms the foundation for more complex ideas to be explored later on. Don’t forget to subscribe 🔔 to my YouTube channel to get regular videos on how to accelerate your learning.

Food-for-Thought
🧘 Mindfulness is a Powerful Technique to Regulate Emotions and Mood
However, mindfulness it is often misunderstood, or seems intangible. This framing may allow for the opening of a better understanding: "You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing everything with logic. If words control you, that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass." - Bruce Lee Be mindful of your internal knee-jerk feeling. Allow it to subside and pass completely, before deciding whether to act and which action is required. Mindfulness is about being able to observe, and allowing what happens, happen. Letting go of any judgement or thought-patterns that may occur. P.S: Take a moment to consider in what situation were you able to be mindful of your internal knee-jerk response today?
